diaspora diaries...

A gud fren of mine was at my apartment for dinner tonite. we had a coupl of drinks together : actullay,  drank da whole bottle together : i can see an empty whisky bottle n "22 standard drinks" written on it . but i dun feel any drunkenness (may be coz  its very cold in Sydney dese days).

we talked about da new place he moved in last week , how different  this city is  from Kathmandu, the cute girls in party at da weekend.  his estranged girlfren. and we talked about how we first met some 3 n half years back at our coleg smoking area ( its been 4 months since i last smoked: i reckon i quitted now.....lol ).We have been a very gud frens since dat day. he had some old classic nepalese songs in his mobile.he played HAAR RAT SAPANIMA BY DEEP SHRESTHA from his mobile.he both talked about families back home n a dreams of our  future we had.

i was November 2007, i took a flight from Tribhuwan International Airport at around mid-day wid one of the  best frens of my brother. he was 3-4 years older than me but  we had one thing in common; our further studies in Sydney. we had a  3 hrs transit at Singapore airport (we were so overwhelmed by the airport dere : da elevator dere were so long : n da duty free shops looked so tidy and were shining. then we had flight for da whole night n da next day.we reached Sydeny airport in da evenin of 15th of  November (i can still see dat date in my passport ). we were just outside of da exit :  i cud see da glitterin buildings nearby. one of guy from our hometown was waitin for us just near da exit.i was so glad to see him there : he was one of the few people we knew here in sydney. there was another guy wid him who has been here in sydney since a year or so .''kasto bhayo yatra sathi haru?! ma pradip hai !!" he said smilin  n shook his hand with both of us. he was just a stranger few minutes back n now we were all  laughin at his jokes as we sat there for a smoke. everything looked so strange  for some weeks (for some months actually) in Sydney. I saw train for da first time 2nd time  da next day : i was so excited , it was so huge, tidy and moreover i was  fascinated by da automatic doors it had .." NEXT STOP -WOLLI CREEK'' i cud hear da announcement in da train as we were  heading toward da city. I was so excited to see da skycrapers for da first time in my life. one of our frens took us for a evenin stroll to da opera house.i had seen its pictures  from my childhood n to see find just infront of me huge n alive  was really wonderful feeling. we found ourselves wanderin in literally all parts of da city of Sydney dat week.

time really flies !....its been already more than 3 years  since i first came in sydney. most of da places now look familiar n i met (and made) lots of frens here. when i see someone lookin like from my country on da bus n da train, i sense a feelin of nearness : a sense of belongingness.... someone once said "' A COUNTRY IS NOT MERELY DA LAND: BUT ITS ALSO DA PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN IT N THEIR LIVES.''. when i see someone who looks like me , i can feel  my country wid me .........wid us .......here in diaspora.........

  3. I swear, sometimes I forget that you're from another country, which is why it's so fascinating to hear about your experiences! (You know how I always ask you and Baljit like, 10,000 questions? This is why!) This was really interesting, Nawa :)
